Nelson
New Zealand: New Zealand's Mediterranean Treat
The
city of Nelson was named after Admiral Lord Nelson of Battle of Trafalgar
fame. European settlement of the region began in 1840 and in 1858 Nelson
(named for Admiral Lord Nelson) became New Zealands second city
by Royal Charter signed by Queen Victoria.
Every
year the city hosts the Montana New Zealand Wearable Art Awards, where
art comes off the wall and onto the body in many weird and wonderful
ways. You never know what you will see or what will win the top prize.
Nelson
is home to two fantastic beaches - Tahunanui Beach and Rabbit Island.
Both beaches are all within easy reach and worth the trip.
The
Nelson Lakes National Park is set amidst the mountains and glaciated
valleys south of Nelson city and features beech forests and the beautiful
jewel-like lakes, Rotoiti and Rotoroa.
Cruise

or several days and explore the inlets and areas around the harbour
like Admiral Lord Nelson.
